John Thomas WEBB was born on 17th March 1916 (Newmarket Q2-1916 3B/852), the son of William Newman and Matilda WEBB (née CHAPMAN) of Jockey Club Cottages, Lacey’s Lane, Exning.

In the 1939 register, at 2 Jockey Club Terrace, Lacey's Lane, Newmarket were John ( a footman); his father William N [21-1-1882] farm worker; mother Matilda [27-1-1886]; brother Percy W.[23-2-1913] a farm worker. There are 2 closed records.

He married Catherine Louise HINES) of Benson, Oxon.,in Battersea in Q4- 1940.


The Honourable Artillery Company (HAC) was incorporated by Royal Charter in 1537 by King Henry VIII and is the second oldest military organisation in the world (behind the Vatican’s Pontifical Swiss Guard).

He was wounded in the El Alamein Campaign, but that is all that has been found of his Army life..
